TV Comedian - Theatre Cruises

2010 sees Bobby Knutt celebrating 48 years in show business. He learned his trade on the anvil of the Northern club circuit winning many awards for his style of humour which has always relied on a commentary on life rather than just telling jokes. He appeared on The Comedians in 1973 and after that, many more TV shows like Summertime Special, Live at Her Majesty's, Celebrity Squares, Blanketty Blank and The Des O'Connor show. He made his acting debut in Ken Loache's award winning TV drama ‘The Price of Coal' after which he was seen in many different roles, including Heartbeat, All Creatures Great & Small, The Bill, Last of the Summer Wine to name but a few. He appeared in Coronation Street for two years as the Garage owner Ron Sykes and later in Emmerdale for three years as the wily Albert Dingle. Upon the death of his close friend, Brian Glover he took over as the voice of The Gaffer in the Tetley Tea Adverts.

Last year he was proud to be back in Yorkshire doing Panto at the Sheffield Lyceum in Cinderella, which smashed the existing box office at that venue. Many Sheffielders will remember ‘Knutty', as the King of pantomime after his many years playing the big daft kid in those memorable pantomimes at the Cruicible Theatre. This year sees him back again where he belongs; on the stage of the lyceum in Aladdin as the Chinese Policeman, his 29 th pantomime and his 13 th in Sheffield .

When he finds time in his busy schedule he appears on the cruise ships spreading the Yorkshire Gospel to the uninitiated. He prides himself on never telling a blue gag and calls himself a professional ‘cheerer upper'. He still lives in the Sheffield area with his wife, the former Olympic athlete Donna Hartley.
In July 2009 his autobiography “Eyup Knutty” was published and is racing up the best-seller charts having sold over 20,000 copies in the first two months. It covers his life from childhood to 1981 and is a warts and all story of his varied and exciting career. He is now busy writing book two.
